Less than ten years later, Lacan vehemently condemns Freud for \u201cpromoting the One\u201d and thus falling back into the very \u201csermonizing\u201d he abhorred. In this seminar, Dr Lorenzo Chiesa aims at exploring the reasons for such a seemingly drastic change in Lacan\u2019s orientation. Why does Freudianism not suffice for atheism? In what sense is religion \u201cinvincible\u201d even and especially after the death of God? How can psychoanalysis resist religion only by \u201cgetting used to the real-real\u201d? What is the role of science in this?<\/p>\n<p>Suggested reading: Freud\u2019s &#8220;The Future of an Illusion&#8221;. However, please note it is not necessary to have read this beforehand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The seminar will take place Thursday 22 April, 2021 on Zoom at 8pm-9:30pm BST.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All welcome and free with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/freuds-alibi-and-lacans-new-triumph-of-religion-tickets-148825439897\">registration via Eventbrite<\/a>. Registrants will be sent a zoom link shortly before the seminar begins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Lorenzo Chiesa<\/strong> is a Lecturer in Philosophy at Newcastle University (UK), where he is the Co-Convenor of the Faculty Research Group in Critical Theory and Practice.
