Stupidity and Psychoanalysis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is nothing new in thinking that we live in stupid times. While many thinkers think (or have thought) about stupidity as a symptom, Lacan considered it as immune to the influence of psychoanalysis, saying about himself, \u201cI am only relatively stupid\u2015that is to say, I am as stupid as all people\u2015perhaps because I got a little bit enlightened.\u201d Here stupidity\u2019s inescapability signifies (and is signified by) the absence of any coherent foundation in desire and lack but instead emanates from the will to jouissance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We invite you to join Jean-Michel Rabat\u00e9<\/strong> (University of Pennsylvania), Samo Tom\u0161i\u010d<\/strong> (Humboldt Universit\u00e4t), James Martell <\/strong>(Lyon College), Antonio Viselli<\/strong>( University of Canterbury) and Cindy Zeiher<\/strong> (University of Canterbury) to discuss their contributions to a new collection<\/a> dedicated to Lacanian readings of stupidity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The seminar will take place on Zoom on Thursday 30 January 2025 at 7pm-8:30pm* Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) London time.<\/strong>
